Hygge (pronounced hooga) is a Danish philosophy, and indeed a cultural lifestyle, that focuses on comfort, coziness, togetherness and well being. The Danish people are considered some of the happiest in the world and the practice of Hygge in their everyday lives is considered one of the reasons why!
Described as “coziness of the soul” and “the pursuit of everyday pleasures”, Hygge is really all about atmosphere with the goal of creating comfort. We don’t need to spend a lot of money to feel this. Light a candle, grab a soft blanket and slip on your coziest socks, sit in a comfortable chair (if it's outside around a campfire even better!), read a book, take in the scent of the forest and breath deep, take in nature while walking slowly letting the sun softly warm your face or the breeze carry your worries away, savor a decadent chocolate, gaze into a fire while having heart warming conversation, drink a delectable coffee or thoughtfully prepared tea.
This is what Hygge feels like.
We’ve designed this lovely Hygge-Infused 3 Day Retreat that captures this vibe and our hope is that by the end of your stay you are delightfully equipped with a clear sense of what Hygge is all about so that when you return home you can continue adding the calming comfort of Hygge to your world.
This retreat includes a cozy welcome drink of Wildcrafted Tea (or our chilled version), a guided journaling session, rest in a comfortable glamping tent with throw blankets, the soft glow of fairy lights, and a hygge chest with items to warm the heart and inspire, there will be slow movement forest therapy exercises, tea and coffee bar, evening fire circles, time to read, rest in a hammock in the trees, meditate in our screened open air meditation pods, enjoy a nature walk with refreshments under a deep forest canopy destination, visit our working art studio and observe art in the creation stages, participate in charcoal drawing or nature crafts, stargaze, take a self-guided outbound day trip to a remote beach, trail or waterfall, enjoy self-care time from items gathered and plants harvested from the land.
This place gave birth to the art of Yasei Shinrin Yoku and its core elements of spiritual ecology. Here ancient tales of nature spirits including those of the Elves reside in the forest and around the sacred fire circle.
Bringing hygge into the forest is a perfect match for a grounding, soul-nourishing experience. Join our 3-day retreat tailored for off-grid glamping in the forest with a forest therapy, reading and journaling focus all supported with cozy, slow-living, and the connection-based essence of hygge.
You also have access to our rustic library filled with both unique and antique books focused on nature, adventure, history, cooking, natural wellness and much more (the Oracle Card Corner is one of my favorite places to plant myself for a surprising amount of time).
For an additional fee you can add an Ayurvedic Head Massage, Tree Reading, Ancestral Mapping or Marma Therapy Session to your stay.
We are 10 minutes from Lumby where you have access to quaint town amenities. Included in this fee is the glamping tent accommodation, comfort food meals, snacks, coffee and chilled tea bar.

The Taste of Hygge
You will experience Hygge culinary delights which blend wildcrafted ingredients, outdoor cooking and extreme comfort food.
A Hygge meal is about creating a warm, cozy, and comforting food experience that fosters a sense of wellbeing and enjoyment. It emphasizes slow, mindful eating, sharing with friends and loved ones, and savoring simple pleasures. Think of hearty, comforting dishes like stews, soups, and pastries, often with a focus on seasonal ingredients and homemade elements, like homemade bread or pie.
This learning retreat includes meals and snacks that change with the season and the forest. We will share the menu in advance of your arrival.
A Great Learning Opportunity
Here at the Wildcraft Forest School we have developed these Hygge Retreats to compliment and support our various certification programs like Yasei Shinrin Yoku Practitioners Training, Shamanic Coach Training, Wildcrafting and Sanctuary Forest Design. We believe that Hygge offers complimentary experiences that will elevate the skills of our students as it is presented within a working forest farm environment.
